I have the honour to inform you that the
subordinate staff in my department verbally requested me this morning to favourably recommend them for a bonus in accordance
with Circular No. 60 of 4th. September, 1911.

In recommending their application for the favourable consideration of His Excellency the Officer Administer- -ing the Government I would state that since Mr. R. F. Brayn, 1st. Assistant Auditor, proceeded on lone leave of absence on 23rd. May, 1911, no one has been appointed to fill the vacancy, the 2nd. Assistant Auditor combining the majority of the duties of 1st. and 2nd. Auditor. The present state of the audit of accounts is to my entire satisfaction, and I think the
Hon. Col. Treasurer can endorse this view.

The clerks drew my attention to the fact that in other offices the whole staff had opportunities of receiving acting appointments and pointed especially to the numerous acting appointments among the clerical staff in the Colonial Secretary's Office during the last eighteen months. I consider that it would only be equitable that a gratuity might in these special circumstances be allowed.
I have considered the facts very closely and
he Hon. The Colonial Secretary.
